In-Home Internet Access Options
Remote Learning 2020-2021

The primary two internet providers in the Los Lunas and surrounding areas are Comcast Cable and Century Link. You may call them to see what is available at your residence.

Comcast Cable offers a low cost option for households that qualify. The cost is $9.95 per month for their “internet essentials” program. More information is available at https://www.internetessentials.com/.

All cell providers can typically add a hotspot to your monthly cell phone service for an extra fee. Using this method, you can easily and quickly setup your cell phone as a mobile hotspot to allow one or more students to access the internet using your cell phone data access. Your cell phone will act just like a wireless service from Century Link or Comcast. For families who live outside the range of availability from Century Link or Comcast, this is the one of the best methods to gain internet access from home. Call your cell service provider for details on pricing and set up.

(Please note that this last option may only be available outside your home, depending on location and availability.)
Comcast Cable is offering free access to their hotspots for a limited time during the COVID-19 crisis. For more information regarding Comcast hotspots – see https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/open-xfinity-wifi-hotspots.

LLS Extended WiFi/HotSpot Availability:

The district has expanded its WiFi internet access on 4 district campuses for the 2020-2021 academic year.  If you live within or close to the primary Los Lunas areas, these are the recommended locations for getting the best connection outside your home.

Los Lunas High School (LLHS)
Century High School (CHS)
Valencia High School (VHS)
Teacher Resource Center (TRC) - located at 801 Coronado NE, Los Lunas

Any district issued MacBook or iPad will automatically be able to connect to the district network (LLS) from the front parking areas at any of these locations. There will be no guest network available, so personal devices will not be able to use the district network at these locations.

The following locations have HughesNet Satellite based HotSpots, available with WiFi extended into the parking areas at the following sites:  (Note - we recommend turning off your video if you plan to participate in a Zoom meeting from one of the locations listed below due to high latency and variable speeds)  Please park in the areas shown (near the satellite dish) - not in front of a fire station bay door.

1. Fire station 4 at 755 Meadow Lake Rd., Los Lunas, NM 87031 (Download speeds should be pretty good, but upload speeds are typically a bit slow)

2. Fire Station 12 at 22 San Pedro, Laguna, NM 87105 (Both download & upload speeds are okay.)
