Distance Learning Academy

Lunas Schools Distance Learning Academy (DLA) is offered at Century High
School and provides a quality education for our students where we combine a hybrid setting
allowing students to take advantage of a web-based curriculum and increase the student’s
ability to understand through small-group and one-on-one tutorials. Students are challenged
with a rigorous curriculum where the Distance Learning Academy staff monitor and motivate
students to succeed. Students will be required to attend live classes once a week and will work
at their own pace to complete on-line classes. Depending on the student’s time constraints and
motivation, the high school course(s) may be completed ahead of time for early graduation.

The Century High School Distance Learning Academy is an opportunity for families to take
advantage of blending classroom instruction with home school instruction; allowing students to
benefit from both group and one-on-one approaches; and, online instruction that increases
student success. Students employ "Distance Learning” via remote their home computer
connection to login and receive instruction through Apex, our web-based curriculum. On
Fridays, students will participate in math lab, language arts lab, small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring. Students are also encouraged to enroll in Dual Credit courses at UNM-VC to receive college and high school credit simultaneously.

The Distance Learning Academy creates individualized student profiles through aligning
academic needs with motivational factors. These profiles are shared with parents and students,
establishing a strong partnership between home and school. Parents are provided in-depth
program training, student expectations, and have access to real-time progress. Students are in
control of their progress and learn to manage time, create schedules, set goals, self-assess,
analyze, monitor, and correct mistakes.
